Tell DHS: Stop spying on immigrants!

The Department of Homeland Security’s policy of monitoring social media accounts for all immigrants, including green card holders and naturalized citizens, amounts to reckless and unwarranted surveillance of a broad swath of people living the United States. Although they claim this social media monitoring is necessary for national security, a person’s online presence – including everything from who someone follows on Twitter to a list of a person's Facebook friends – isn’t representative of someone’s belief system or future actions. And definitely should not be used by the government in evaluating immigration cases. The Department of Homeland Security should immediately cease and desist monitoring, collecting, and storing any social media account data on U.S. immigrants.
