On Call Translating Bilingual Volunteer

Description:

Catholic Charities is looking for one or more skilled and enthusiastic volunteer translators. A lot of the work we do requires us to translate documents and declarations from Spanish into English. These translations are often essential parts of our immigration cases. We are seeking volunteers to translate documents from Spanish into English. Documents may include: declarations, civil documents and simple legal documents. Although this current volunteer opening does not include any client interaction, there is a possibility to expand your role over time (e.g., to include client interaction or case preparation) depending on your interests and the needs of the agency.

Time and Place:

Will vary and depend on needs. A staff member will contact the On-Call Translating Volunteer to assign translation and coordinate deadlines. Deadlines will usually be 48h, 36h, or a week depending on the needs and the type of documents that will be translated. Volunteer is welcome to either come to our office in San Mateo or perform the activities remotely.

Special Skills Needed:

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Attention to detail & resourcefulness
  • Comfortable using Microsoft word and email
  • If planning to serve remotely, will need access to a personal computer
