Naturalization is the process of becoming a U.S. citizen. Many people who have green cards (permanent residents) want to become U.S. citizens because it affords them the same rights as native born U.S. citizens, including the ability to travel or live outside the U.S. without restrictions, vote in U.S. elections, and help family members get immigration status.
