NYLAG’s Immigrant Protection Unit (IPU) is seeking volunteers to specifically assist with NYCitizenship, a partnership between NYLAG and the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs. Through NYCitizenship, NYLAG attorneys provide citizenship legal services on-site at 12 libraries throughout the New York Public Library, Queens Public Library, and Brooklyn Public Library systems. Volunteers will work to schedule appointments that come through the NYCitizenship hotline. Volunteers may have the opportunity to work directly with the attorneys assisting with application processing on an ad hoc basis. Training will be provided as necessary. This is an excellent opportunity for those seeking experience in an office environment, have an interested in legal services, and enjoy working with a diverse population!
Time and Place:
Volunteers will be based in NYLAG’s main office in Lower Manhattan. Commitment of 2-3 days per week, 10-15 hours for 3 months or longer is required.
Special Skills Needed:
- High school or Undergraduate student
- Bilingual capability in Spanish is strongly preferred
- Interest in public interest law
- Positive attitude and self-motivated
- Professional demeanor and punctuality
- Experience with calendar scheduling preferred but not required
